After moving away to start a new life, an emotionally damaged young woman begins to suspect that an abusive ex-boyfriend has begun stalking her. Is this just her mind playing tricks on her? Or is something far more sinister going on? GENRE: Horror/Thriller DIRECTED BY JACK BERRY STARRING GWYNETH EVANS 'FOREVER’ is a zero-budget psychological Horror short film that was shot entirely on a Huawei P30 smartphone. This was a unique challenge for me as I’ve been working freelance as a Cinematographer for the past year, working with high-end camera equipment, so to go back to basics and shoot on a phone was equally thrilling as it was somewhat frightening to me. One of the first steps we used to ensure that we could get the best possible visuals, was to download the app ‘FILMIC PRO’. This allows you to manually change things like aperture, focus, and frame rate, and give you much more freedom than the standard camera function on most phones. We then edited, color graded, and sound-mixed the footage to the highest possible standard using Adobe Creative Cloud Software, which I feel had a hand in elevating the short to feel more professional.

‘Fated’ is a zero-budget short psychological horror film that we made for the 2021 BIFA short horror film competition. We have very little in terms of resources, so we often find ourselves having to come up with creative ways to make our films cinematic and interesting. All our films are shot on my Canon 650D DSLR, mostly handheld and very Guerrilla-style. Luckily, we’re blessed to live in rural Cumbria where there’s a lot of very beautiful outdoor spaces that we can use to our benefit. Despite our limitations, we like to make sure that what we produce still feels somewhat professional. For this short, I wanted to make something that I felt could stick with you, long after you’ve watched it. I’m a big fan of early-to-mid 2000’s horror films, I feel like there were a lot of films during this era that nailed that dark, cold, and oppressive tone. These films often had mysterious plots and dealt with themes like fate and the inevitability of death, themes that I find very interesting and that scare me personally. Jack graduated from The University of Sunderland, with a BA Hons degree in Film & Media in 2018. Since then, he has been the cinematographer for several film projects, many of which he has also directed. During lockdown, him and his creative partner, Gwyneth Rhianwen, created a short film production company called Bewitched Productions. Between them they have been nominated for several awards at both UK and international film festivals. Jack has a mixture of independent and professional media experience, recently having worked for Creative & Noble, a London based production company that produce adverts and marketing material for businesses. Jack will serve as Resolute’s in-house filmmaker, shooting, editing, and occasionally directing showreel scenes. He looks forward to working on new original scenes with a wealth of fabulous actors.
